Varanasi: Cricket fever gripped the city on Sunday as team India faced Australia in the ICC World Cup final.
The city roads, except those leading to ghats along river Ganga, wore a deserted look since the beginning of the match in the afternoon while several groups remained busy performing various rituals seeking blessings of deities for India’s victory since Saturday.
In the parks of residential colonies and apartments, giant screens were installed for live screening of the match. In one of the apartments in Manduadih, residents were found enjoying the match with Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, who is in the city for the last few days for a film shooting. Even the ghats along the river Ganga, which remained abuzz with devotees thronging there for Chhath puja, were in the grip of WC final fever as giant screens were also arranged there for live telecast of the match.
